Halifax Is Burning :: S03E15

Rock Tumbler is an amazing new program based out of Halifax that is helping get instruments into the hands of kids who have a burning desire to rock n' roll, but have no means to get guitars, drums, etc...

Rock Tumbler takes your old, used, broken or unwanted instruments, fixes them up, then works hand in hand with school boards across the province to help get the instruments into the hands of kids. Amazing, no?

On the show this week, Rock Tumbler founder Jeremy Holmes stops by for the whole hour to talk about this great program, to tell us how it got started, how it works and how you can help.

If you want to make a donation, visit the Rock Tumbler blog, or look them up on Facebook.

Halifax Is Burning :: S03E14

Finally! A large-scale concert to get excited about here in Halifax. On Monday, the Halifax Pop Explosion announced M Fest, a good old fashioned summer bash happening at Alderney Landing.

As you can see from the poster above, the line-up - though only four acts have been confirmed - is stacked. Broken Social Scene, Ted Leo & The Pharmacists, Surfer Blood and Diamond Rings will all grace the Dartmouth waterfront on Sunday, August 7, 2011.

On this week's program, I caught up with Jonny Stevens, the Executive Director of the Halifax Pop Explosion, to talk about how M Fest was developed, and what else we can expect from this pretty rad one-day festival.

Halifax Is Burning :: S03E13

Well if there is any truth to the "spring break-up" theory, it is certainly apparent in Halifax, Nova Scotia. A mere two weeks after the break-up of a Halifax punk-rock institution, Dartmouth's The Grass will be playing their final show on Friday, April 1 at the Seahorse.

But have no fear! The core members of the band will be reforming under the new (old?) moniker, Money, and will take their high-energy rock n roll in a new direction.

This week, Willis Ryan - singer/guitarist for The Grass - stopped by the station to talk about band's last stand, their new band, and their plans for the future.

Have a listen.
